Doesn't the overwhelming opposition to 5 & 6, by the broad SF (& CA) left kind of falsify that statement?

It’s not really about stupid or lack of rationality per se. We really shouldn’t be expecting voters to make informed ballot prop decisions. Elites (party and group leaders) want their team to win, but are also making sincere arguments. Just don’t expect consistent ideology.

The issue here Jason is that the young YIMBY folks entered politics EXPLICITLY because of a strong ideological stance - and ended up in bed with folks who are more of a traditional urban coalition of interests. In some ways, DSA’s role in SF “prog” politics is a weird mirror

YIMBY is a cross ideological movement based on certain desired policy outcomes. That’s not the same as ideology.

The divisive nature of San Francisco requires SF YIMBY to pick a prominent side in order for its policy goals to be achieved. It was sensible to endorse the side that happened to be pro-development. SF YIMBYs still moved that window quite far compared to even the mayors race

At the start of this year, Jane Kim was fearmongering about highrises in the Sunset District at West Portal and Leno was absolutely silent on any pro-housing policies. One London Breed victory and vindication of yimby later, the explicit nimbyism wasn't as evident with the progs.
