People have always been willing to trade freedom for perceived security in policy, and privacy for a free slice of mediocre pizza in commerce. We only prefer these things if there’s no trade off.

How would you characterize the folks (we could debate their numbers or importance) who would argue that some ideas are too bad/offensive to allow in public places, the cliche example being college kids who don't want <whoever> allowed on campus?

I feel like those stories are way overblown and play into a totally different kind of grievance politics, typically from those who already hold power and capital in society.
