less than 2 years ago, @mayoredlee put one person in charge of an entire consolidated dept of homelessness for the very first time. That person has several decades of experience on this issue, looked at the system holistically & still concluded it needed resources.

Order breaks down after that. These are high touch cases with everything going on from traumatic brain injury, substances, PTSD, medical bankruptcy, youth fleeing LGBT persecution wherever they’re from, domestic abuse, etc.

Totally understand this is incredibly complex. It just seems we have layered complexity, and as those multiply costs rise a lot. And we're seeing that -- ish. The gov is also subsidizing the heck out of people so they don't end up homeless. Thats the bulk of the cost.

Agreed on the software front. I'm thinking less about software-likened scale and more like industrial-era approaches. Even the 1-2 dozen Target is interesting. What if there was a standardized 20 person structure? Ditch everything else and just optimize that model.
