I spent my adolescence in a homeless shelter and I’ve spent my entire life since trying to figure out finance and complex systems. My biggest take-away from the last 10 years? Good intentions ≠ Good outcomes.pic.twitter.com/NNhGS0JybT

But... would you have rather spent your teenaged years sleeping on the street? There are only roughly 1,100 shelter beds for 7,000 people in SF. They are generally always ~95% full and there’s a three month waiting list. At least you had a shelter.
Yes because I lived in a town that wasn’t messed up from first principles. I’ve spent the last year helping a 98 year old homeless woman navigate shelters here. The system is a joke. There are 70 homeless organizations in SF that pass around responsibility.
you can't redesign 150+ year-old cities with close to 1 million people from "First Principles." That's not how governance works.
actually re-designing a major American city with close to 1 million people already in it from First Principles is called... dictatorship.
I don’t think that’s fair. You can believe that re-evaluating the whole broken system from first principles would be a better strategy than just injecting more capital without needing a dictator. Strategy is more important than capital here.
Although direct democracy on these topics is somewhat terrifying, because how ballot measures make voters feel is what wins. Attitudes on tech and money will decide Prop C, not care for homeless. PS. If Sf wants a really fun dictator tell them to call me
tech had many chances to prove itself. Could've funded J & K, the sales tax measure for homelessness funding that failed in 2016, or D, which failed this summer to raise money for homelessness. Instead, high-profile investors put money into Prop Q to take away people's tents.
