That’s not Benioff or Dorsey’s fault. The news media & public attention is just much more attracted to the narrative of disagreeing billionaires than it is to the people who’ve lost their housing or who have been chronically homeless for years.https://twitter.com/anildash/status/1054120006701670400 …

I’m nowhere near fluent enough to speak about the issue, and wouldn’t anyway — it’s striking how much the conversation is dominated by voices of technology leaders. It’s framed as Benioff vs. Dorsey (or whomever) at the expense of the voices of those without homes, or advocates.

Sure, but we can all amplify people. Especially with communications experts on staff and enormously powerful platforms to do so.

Over 80 news organizations came together for in-depth homelessness stories in 2016, and it's an issue we and our colleagues cover almost daily. We try hard to amplify the voices of people suffering.https://projects.sfchronicle.com/sf-homeless/

Like race or gender privilege, they didn’t ask for it, but they are responsible for what they do with it, and extending its benefits to those not so privileged.

I don’t think it’s anyone’s fault except for the @citysanfran which has mismanaged about a billion dollars in the last 4 years alone, on a problem that has only gotten worse. Now they want to throw more money at it without any accountability. Wasting money doesn’t help the people

Agreed with caveat that @Benioff at least has been promoting his own words widely; I've gotten a number of ads for his Prop C tweets. That said, anyone is free to advertise their words. So at end of day, the media is running with the 'easy' story unfortunately, not the hard one.

Also for good or ill the current debate isn’t exactly about helping the homeless it is more about a mechanism to fund that help (in a way that has direct funding vs subject to every city yearly budget cycles)
