Cars are not the problem. It’s the incompetence of city planners to incorporate cars, traffic, parking. It’s just as foolish as those who blame tech workers in SF for the housing crisis.

The part of that equation that you missed was how spatially and financially wasteful, and unhealthy cars are. Better accommodation of the car solves nothing. Investment in healthier alternatives is much more important. And that's on government officials, not planners.

We're seeing people fighting against the end to parking in some of our local (rural) towns. Grey vote has a lot of power. Unfortunately, alternatives: bus and bike are not attractive around here so car always wins. Its time for non-car investment.

What does it mean to "prioritize them last" ? Do, for example, car lanes takes less space than bike lanes on a common Vancouverian boulevard ?
-
Hey Dragan, depends on the particular road, however the same width lane will move more people on bikes then people on cars. A more efficient use of space in cities.

In parts of Benellux (obvs) sections of two lanes have been converted in urban areas so that bikes/mopeds takes over one lane completely for two-way, safe, rapid transport and cars are given the other lane for transport in both directions.
