A whole lot of our problem (extremely hot, devastating fires) is 100+ years of fire suppression. In theory, once the entire state burns up, we'll be back to "normal," and with intelligent development, insurance affordability may improve. Or not.

I think we’re in a new world of non-predictability. But yes suppression is an issue. We don’t have a good way of doing controlled burns on the WUI thought, both technically and politically.

It will take a while. And even then, the state provides an insurance of last resort by law.

So we'll be doing the equivalent of the South's flood insurance that encourages people to build in areas that will probably be repeatedly destroyed?
