I am a regular and avid user of both @sfbart and @caltrain but I’m a little embarrassed to say I personally gave up on @sfmta_muni almost a decade ago for bicycling. I sometimes use them to get to Van Ness but that’s it. What about you?https://twitter.com/EskSF/status/1031564045315264512 …

Huh. I've ridden Muni nearly every day of my life since I could walk, sans vacations. Then again, I also dont bike. I take BART occasionally but prefer @rideact for transbay riding because I enjoy looking out windows and feel a bit claustrophobic in the transbay tube.

I've been riding Muni for... decades. To elementary school, high school, college, grad school, work, parties, picnics, doctors appointments. On crutches. Bringing pets home from @sfacc Even to a wedding.

When I lived in Berkeley and was taking classes at SFSU, I rode BART then Muni Metro, then the Metro BACK downtown to my job, then BACK to SFSU for night classes, then to BART, and home.

When I lived in Oakland but went to public school in San Francisco (shh - brief period), I rode AC Transit to the Transbay Terminal, then took a bus to school.

When I see people on here whining about a 12 minute wait for the bus I want to slap the entitled self-absorption off their face.

Can we do better? Absolutely. Should we do better? Absolutely. Should we do that with effectively privatized transit? Absolutely not.

the line between what is private and public transit is much less clear than people presume. Hong Kong MTR is a government-owned corp that trades on their stock exchange. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MTR_Corporation … Japan's trains systems are run by private corps. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan_Railways_Group …

sure. and in SF, taxis are so heavily regulated and subsidized by SF that they effectively become an arm of public transit, which the SFMTA acknowledges in its planning documents.

And, significantly, the City exerts power over them. Can pull their license for, you know, driving with headphones on and blowing through crowded crosswalks.

Comparisons with other countries are also difficult because of very different regulatory frameworks, etc. (Hong Kong public transit ROCKS.)
