You are comparing apples and oranges. The government is often operating in areas that are market failures or aren’t profitable for the private sector to operate in. Also you totally misinterpreted what I said. I just said the public sector was more accountable in certain ways.

Generally agree with these points, but there plenty of instances where the government sucks, and can and should do better. Leftists really should focus on quality of governance too if they want to win

Agreed. They need to also be making sure that public dollars are spent well so as not to squander public will.

But the govt has no competition

Most tech companies who reach scale arguably lack serious competition

Have any of you ever worked for a government agency? It sounds like not. Government is hugely inefficient in the use of resources and the true costs of said resources. There is obvious waste, but much more is hidden in unproductive headcount.

I always saw it a little differently, the only reason biz are “efficient” is markets. The only reason markets exist (over time) is gov “inefficiency” (regulation)gov “waste” is the means to make biz look “efficient”. You can’t have one without the other

I’d question whether problems in the public sector may be “easier to identify and publicize”, but in any case, that’s not enough. Solutions matter, and there I don’t see any evidence of superior public sector accountability.
