How much do people question the mission of the company or the possibility that what they do could be really harmful? I haven’t really gotten that sense from the company, and only from lower ranking employees more recently.

The mission of the company isn't debated regularly but doesn't happen at G either. Those are top level statements that are changed v infrequently. Debates around potential harm caused and mitigation by specific product changes happened regularly, depending on the product/team.
