And that price isn't even social housing. It doesn't imply subsidies. So I guess your US problem is any combination accumulated profit margins, local labour cost/shortage (although France is not known for labour cost killing), overluxury programs, or plain lack of will :)

Completely ignores the issue, which is that all non-land taxes end up in the price of land. Far more effective and efficient to tax land to encourage highest, best use of land. Zoning = privilege to lock out subsequent generations.
