This is a good reason why students should be expected to pay at least a portion of the costs. Society of course realizes benefits, but the individual benefits a great deal. And many, if not most, UC students come more advantaged households.

Too bad the UC system, paid for primarily by California taxpayers, gives somewhere near half of its slots to out of state and out of country kids. California kids with 3.8 -4.0 GPA have no hope of going to a UC. Something is wrong here.
