Kevin, this is a way bigger problem in the structure of the media industry itself. Over the last 20 yrs, one of the few areas to thrive is business journalism, where jobs have grown immensely while other deparments have atrophied & which comes from a particular ideological lens.

I think the above statements are correct. I'd also say a lot of this stems from a lack of expertise - many news orgs fetishize 'experts' + don't want journalists to understand sci/tech and assert stuff. This makes it way easier to spin news orgs as they're intentionally ignorant.

This is what mad Bad Blood interesting... in the midst of horrible puffery, lying, and political leverage built up by Theranos, some employees and a single journalist actually looked at data and stuck to conclusions based on first principles.
