It is a safety net hospital so if you are indeed low income I doubt you pay anything.

I went there when I broke my ankle. The bill was so large my I insurer had an independent auditor throw a new quote back at them to reduce it. They also overcharged a follow-up and my insurance is still arguing about it 6 months later.

I was taken to SF General after getting hit by a car on my bike. Even though I was fully insured, they still hit me with a big bill — above and beyond my co-payments. I tried explaining to them that balance-billing was illegal for ER visits, so they just sent me to collections.
