The biggest protection you can give tenants isn’t rent control its choice. The choice to leave a bad landlord situation and move to a better situation. Only by building a lot of new homes can we give tenants this protection.

Protections for people here earlier basically necessitates that people who come later are wealthier and wealthier as there are just limited spots to compete over.

We have been protecting existing residents at the expense of future ones for generations and it’s one of he biggest reasons we are in this mess. Rent control will stifle lending and construction and while it will help current renters it will pull the ladder up on everyone after.
