This resonates with large swathes of LA as well.https://twitter.com/carterrubin/status/568134629531602945 …

Functionally, Personal Rapid Transit (+ existing mass transit for corridors) would actually work fairly well at these densities -- apart from visual intrusion issues which would force them underground at great cost.

But also -- just had my first experience with e-bikes in SF late last night. They are VERY right for this place. Many more of them, please!

We need to go the way of London and implement day of week license tags; anyone caught driving on a non-permitted day gets a fine. Helped London reduce traffic.

Mexico City has implemented the same type of program. It helps. And it reduced the pollution somewhat.

I’ve experienced breezy superficiality from this source before. Plenty of opportunity for high volume busways, e-bike services with proper infrastructure etc. What these require is political will/commitment to challenge NIMBY small-worlders. Density is not the issue.

We feel this in LA too, believe it or not. Central LA is too dense for cars, but we try cramming them all in anyway, and we continue to mandate gobs of parking in new housing and commercial construction, further exacerbating the problem.
