Can’t just make housing appear by waving one’s arms, tho. Leno in office and Kim nearby would potentially be very positive if they continue as they have and don’t become unapproachable as the last generation of SF politicians (now being eased out) was.

It will be interesting to see what happens with homelessness. He ran on that issue, almost at the expense of all other issues, and whether or not he succeeds is very visible to voters. Where as, even if Breed built 5K units, the impact is marginal and not noticed by most.

Tangentially related: what are your thoughts on ranked choice voting? It sounds good in theory, but it feels kind of weird that London Breed got a substantial chunk of 1st choice votes and will probably now lose.

Respectfully, I'd rather hope Leno's empty statements turn into policy than hope Kim completely changes her understanding of the problem and completely changes her approach. Individually negotiated deals are part of the problem whether or not the deal is good.

a mayor alone can't change the transactional nature of planning permits in SF, but they can be good or bad at executing the deals I'm kinda hoping Leno pulls a Kriss Worthington (berkeley CM sorry) and dispenses with the landuse politics of his faction
