Part of me is like this building proposal is deeply unserious and also, you degens might meme it into existence.

This would be the 12th tallest building in SF but the Planning Dept is already criticizing the proposal sfyimby.com/2023/04/exclus

One of the important stories that's gone only lightly reported is how smoothly the rollout of fully autonomous Cruise cars went in SF. It reminds me of when the Wright brothers invented the airplane and nobody noticed for a few years.

If you thought it was bad that 2 senators represented 39 million Californians, don’t worry, the actual number for the foreseeable future is just 1 senator.

Dianne Feinstein has spent nearly two months away from the Capitol recovering from shingles. But multiple Democrats close to her, as well as congressional aides, are growing concerned that she may never return to Washington. w/ @ccadelago & @jenhab politico.com/news/2023/04/1

Everyone's roasting this program, but I think it's fine. No, it doesn't help with housing affordability. But it does give households without inter-generational wealth a shot at homeownership and it's fully self-funding.

California’s down payment assistance program ran out of money in 11 days and the largest beneficiaries were white households near Sacramento. Decent chance this was mostly legislative staffers and lobbyists who knew the program was coming soon. calmatters.org/housing/2023/0

Carbon removal is about 10% of the solution, while emission reductions are around 90%. Doing 10% without the other 90% doesn't make much of a dent in the problem. At the same time climate is such a big issue that mitigating it is going to require stacking a lot of 10% solutions!

I find the narrative "we need BOTH emission reductions AND carbon dioxide removal" increasingly problematic. We need emission reductions. Full stop. Period. End of story. Here is another attempt to show why emission reductions must come first & be prioritised. 1/

A really well-written op-ed on recovering from fentanyl addiction.

I wrote this as my sincerest plea. Stop demonizing harm reduction, from a person who is intimately familiar with the issue sfgate.com/politics-op-ed

Guns take a hideous toll among the dead and wounded, but their price is far higher. They poison society, spread terror, amplify hate. They are destroying what is best about America not, as their lobbyists lie, somehow preserving it.

Two motorists got into a rolling gunfight on a Florida highway. Each wounded the other's daughter: one 5; one 14. The man who actually fired first will go free under "stand your ground" because he was retaliating against a hurled water bottle. nypost.com/2023/04/10/cha

Here was the idea when I had it six months ago.

My small 2 cents here is the city and the state of California should work with @UofCalifornia and/or @stanford to see if we could anchor a re-imagined CBD/neighborhood with an urban university campus flanked by mixed-use/residential/creative space.... twitter.com/sfchronicle/st…

Inspired by a @kimmaicutler tweet, I proposed we repurpose parts of downtown for classrooms and student housing … and everyone seems to like the idea. Now some smart people are running with it: sfstandard.com/housing-develo

Amazing to see that a lot of different SF leaders are thinking the same way I was thinking when I said last fall that we should embrace universities to re-imagine our downtown central business districts after the pandemic.

The Downtown Adaptive Reuse legislation we drafted was definitely crafted with student housing and live/work arts spaces in mind. Would love to see @Stanford Artist-in-Residency programs or @UCBerkeley sites where students are a part of reimagining Downtown as capstone projects. twitter.com/sfstandard/sta…

The U.S. government cannot function when lawless judges ceaselessly toss out nationwide injunctions seizing control of major policy decisions, from immigration and pollution to public health and reproductive rights. This is rule not by the people, but by a clique of rogue judges.

This case is now a moment of truth for the Supreme Court after Dobbs. Was Kavanaugh telling the truth that he would still vote to strike down brazenly lawless and unconstitutional attempts to restrict abortion? Or will he side with the anti-abortion side in every single case?
