Every country will pay a price for global warming. But it’s the poorest who will suffer the most from rising seas and burning lands

This doesn't make whites evil, it makes them primates like the rest of us. Status is a hell of a drug to the primate brain.

6/ Until that mentality is confronted directly & those who hold it forced to confront why such thinking is destructive, the left will never truly win...Racism and whiteness are why the working class is not united. Can't dance around it. Must make these things the problem...

5/ ...and not as a side issue, or symptom of the class system, or a secondary concern, we will lose. Leftists who advocate universal programs to uplift all don't get it: large numbers of whites don't want a rising tide to lift all boats. They want their boats to rise more...

4/ Beneficiaries looked like us, so we supported such programs. In the Nordic states, relative monoculturalism (compared to the U.S.) makes solidarity more common as well...unless the white class-focused left addresses this, and has a strategy for challenging racism head on...

It's easy to brush that off as evidence of progress, or atonement for mistakes made. But the US has also failed/refused to clean up the areas it's mined. This applies to many places affected by US military waste, including former nuclear test sites

This understanding, which is imminently reasonable and relatable to me, is often dishonestly framed by critics of intersectionality as the idea that we think "objectivity is white supremacy".

Russia and Turkey can’t afford a conflict in Syria so the current tensions are mostly just boasting and posture because the countries want trade to increase to $100 billion; whereas Turkey has just $5 billion in trade with Iran or Ukraine...so Russia-Turkey alliance to continue

Just made the mistake of asking a friend currently canvassing in Iowa whether he had met any voters who said they cared about candidates' views on foreign affairs. Out of hundreds of doors knocked on and dozens of calls, my friend said, there were exactly 2.

One of the takeaways of the Brexit aftermath is that despite all these "how is it made" documentaries, most people have zero conception of the complexity of the global supply chains that make our modern lives possible.

About half of this subsidy comes from killing and sickening people with local air pollution, much of it from transportation. The underlying IMF report is well worth a look.

I’m starting to think the idea that Trump captured the Republican Party has it exactly backward. It’s the party that’s captured Trump, making him pursue all its favorite policies (taxes, judges, deregulation), just with a modicum of space for Trumpian idiosyncrasy on trade.

The President who used a sharpie to try to alter the course of a Hurricane & enraged the scientific community is now in charge of pandemic response to the Coronavirus. Predictably, he has destroyed everything Obama built. This is an important read.

“The government’s initial handling of the epidemic allowed the virus to gain a tenacious hold. At critical moments, officials chose to put secrecy and order ahead of openly confronting the growing crisis to avoid public alarm and political embarrassment.”
