2 - I began inquiring about the results of the investigations but was generally told they were ongoing. It often took months, but I finally obtained the results. One soldier died of natural causes but 8 others died by suicide.

This story began with a press release shortly after I first moved to South Korea in 2016. That was followed by others generally saying a soldier had been found unresponsive and later pronounced dead. 4 - Suicide is a growing problem for all aspects of society. The military’s suicide rates are generally comparable to the overall population. But as the Pentagon’s head of force resiliency said recently ‘this is hardly comforting.'
