Growing up, civics started in 5th grade, with 3 branches, how shit works. Then 6th with court cases, Dred Scott, Brown, etc.

Morphed into "social studies" in 7th and 8th. I sense this may no longer be the case.

I didn't get that. Learned Dred Scott in AP US history junior year. Non-AP students didn't.

Failures of education, too, I think. Civics class in school was not meaningful, informative, skill-building.

Tbh, I don't think it's that simple. I'd be encouraged if learning more about civics would solve the problem.
