The episode technically aired Feb 7th 1999 (Which was a Sunday) but I deiced to honor the date over the day. I will be doing the first month's of episode week to week, back to back on Sundays (I hope) though.

Although this series does share the same characters, it doesn't have the same plot or setting as you'll see! So if you're new to Bombermanime it's fine you can join in without being lost.

Big changes out of the gate with a new series writer and character designer. Not to mention this one has two mech designers!

Abiko did key art on HXH '99 episode 33, KARAS 6, and was a character designer on Michiko & Hatchin. Urahata wrote series Such as Saki, Strike witches, Monster(!!) Shirobako and recently Violet Evergreen.

Bomberman fans should note that Akifumi Tada was the musician who also produced the Bomberman 64 OST. (Though to me, he's the guy who did The Law of Ueki's stellar sound track.)

If this seems familiar, that's understandable. It's basically a remix of the 2nd OP from the first series. Sadly it never got a full release from what I know.

Kouno actually premiered with the group "Make Up" Who sung Songs for Saint Seiya (There's your useless fact of the day.)

Still animated by Madhouse, but with quite a few (at the time) Sunrise animators. Ah I've missed these idiots.

Director: Toshifumi Kawase Kawase wrote (some of) Gundam W, and was a story board artist on double Z as well as turn A. He also wrote The law of ueki(!!) YGO 5D's and most recently was an artist on Hozuki's coolheadedness.

Hey look everyone, it's a peaceful planet, which you know in any anime means things won't end well.

I'm getting a lot of Bomberman 64 vibes from this intro. Starting with mass destruction before giving us an idea of the plot? Very 64-ish.

One thing I'm also super glad they retained is the BG work. In fact you could say it's leveled up since IV ended a week earlier.

The three new menacing henchmen. Give it about 15 minutes and they lose about 98% of that initial intimidation.

Aka's a princess in this story, and her Dad a king tasked with protecting something known as a "Crystmond" Sorry Aka, Daddy's gotta ostensibly throw away his life for the plot.

I do like that other than Aka calling out for her dad and Dad apologizing before engaging some knaves that there's no dialog. Adds to the tension in the start.
