    Things I did but don’t do any more... - Say “guys” - Call things “crazy” or “mad” - Call myself “OCD” - Use “master/slave” technical terminology - Use “whitelist/blacklist” I don’t miss any of them and it actually feels good. Words matter!

    I'm so happy I've found Next.js, Now and - all are reminding me why I went into software development in the first place. They abstract away all of the stuff I'm really not very interested in, and they also do it 100x better than I'd be able to anyway.

    Like any other piece of work, writing automated tests should be prioritised. For critical pieces of an application they’d be assigned high priority, for non-critical/low-risk parts, low priority. There’s no shame in deciding that tests aren’t necessary for this bit right now.

    Honest question: If you don’t write tests for your code, why? Are they too complicated to write, there isn’t enough time or is there something else?

    People rave about PG but I disagree with almost every single one of his Twitter hot takes. We need to stop treating technology as the solution to all of the world’s problems. Some rich dude is not going to fix climate change in his free time 🙄

    Just heard from a successful startup founder with a side project developing technology to fix climate change. If you're doing well enough that you can afford to start side projects, I encourage you to follow his example. Spaceships are cool, but we already have people doing that.

    That's Kierans "listen hard" face. Impressive as hell, he's basically led to the best Open Banking API that exists. 150ms response times. Other banks think 1.5 seconds is good, and 20 seconds is acceptable. It isn't. Customers will switch for faster AISP services. 🚀

    About to publish our team's Open Banking API stats for the quarter. Let the record show that they are now 5-15 times faster than other banks, with zero scheduled downtime for deployments, and practically 100% uptime 💪

    This question is harmful. Before asking it, have a long think about whether you’re comfortable with the current state of the tech industry as it is. Entertain the possibility that you are undermining efforts to fix the situation by framing minorities as a source of unfairness.

    “Would you hire a woman/person of colour/LGBT+/... person even if they weren’t the best for the job?” is a question I hear ALL the time. It’s a massive hypothetical diversion from the REAL problem, which is that people in these groups are LESS likely to be chosen, not more.
