on some real shit i’ve been thinking of doing a lil passion project where i explain what the fuck all these “academic” terms mean & how they can be used (which could be helpful for both myself and others — i’m confused in class sometimes purely because of the language being used)

but also, is that really necessary? let’s be real for a moment: if your framework isn’t accessible, then why should anyone have to translate? is it that hard for academics to say things.....more plainly? (i’m thinking of diana’s tweet from a while back abt language lol)

growing v tired of people being left out of conversations that pertain to them bc academia is not doing the work to translate!!!! & if only a select few can actually understand what you’re saying, it’s important to ask yourself why

sure there’s ~nuance~ to this but i feel a large part of academia pretends to care about marginalized communities as a whole while actively participating in gatekeeping. so how much access to info do the communities u talk about/advocate for actually have

also, to be clear: i am def not exempt from this! as someone who goes to stanford + has privilege i know i’ve definitely done this several times. i just posted this thread to remind myself why i’m learning what i’m learning & what i want to do with it!

I defo agree with the argument about inaccessible language. But I tie that more so to the dry, unnecessarily complex ways in which theory is presented; not to terms that are alien to the reader/listen because that’s as simple as looking it up

mmmmmm this is a fair point!!!!
