Q related to gestures for @mwalibali. Some math videos show live handwriting, like Khan. Others have whole lines of work appear at once, with colors/highlighting for emphasis (TransMath). Granted, Sal Khan uses colors. But I bet their impact is diluted by focus on the pen moving?

great question -- I don't think we know for sure. The live handwriting lets students encode the material bit by bit, which might be more effective. But the pen moving may also be distracting. so it could cut both ways.

Thanks.
@khanacademy could be a great test bed for controlled experiments like this, but I don't think they do that.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

oh yes, it would! for experiments about color & encoding, too. and about linking related ideas w/ common color. etc etc etc!!

I know you use A/B testing,
@khanacademy, but it doesn't seem like you work on things like this. Why not try it out? You could advance human understanding of how the brain learns.1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -
As long as you're listening,
@khanacademy, may I ask why your math videos work through math problems step-by-step without giving a visual overview of what the steps will be -- how the problem breaks down into phases? My students say they never know where a video is going.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes
