At my school they sent kids to the principal's office if they didn't stand up and recite it. I stopped saying 'under god' and got in trouble for that too

White conservative area. There were a lot of churches around but my parents and I never went, so I never really thought of that. I guess it was pretty religious.

Did you have a specific pledge for your state as well? I remember I got in a lot of trouble for not saying it correctly when I first moved to Texas. It had some heavy religious undertones, and I was uncomfortable with saying the word “God” for some reason.
