Just wanted to say that I’m so glad many people are saying they’ll support local restaurants! I’m Kristi and I love talking manga & J-E translation, as well as my job at @jnovelclub. If any of that interests you, a follow would be very appreciated! Stay safe and ty for reading!

Just gonna say a few things: 1. If you knew that it had gotten so bad that some local restaurants are “on life support” with these orders, I’m glad you knew, but it’s not “common sense.” Especially not for ppl from different countries/cultures, ppl who don’t use these apps, etc.

2. The ppl who work for these 3rd party apps need to make a living too. If you can order directly from a local restaurant, that’s great! If you use a 3rd-party app, that’s fine, too. But in either case, please tip, and tip well. Both the restaurant and the ppl delivering.

I also want to say thank you to all the ppl who’ve (kindly) shared their opinions/stories. I hope sharing this information has helped in some way. Thank you.

i did the in-house delivery for a resturaunt for a year and those apps were 10X more popular even though the in house was better for both parites in every way
-
In my area, a lot of restaurants only offer delivery through these apps and not directly, which always seemed a little strange to me.

Restaurants near me do something like this but except of a letter they take your money and "lose" your order until 2 hours later (est. delivery was 30-40 minutes) the deliveryman is suddenly at your door with hot food.
-
If you order thru a delivery app, it's typical that small orders will not be accepted by a delivery driver unless tip is included (but cash tip is best), which might explain delays if they made your food but no one picks it up, esp if there's no parking near that restaurant
