do I really want to sign up for a senior position where the manager thinks that people need to have a certain degree or a certain number of years experience vs. a demonstrable ability to do the job, regardless? (no)

when people tell me I should apply for a job even though the job posting says "15 yrs experience" or whatever: you misunderstand my intentions the reason I won't apply isn't because I think I lack the ability to do the job; it's because the person who wrote that would be my boss

"white men will apply anyway!" all the more reason not to apply! would prefer to work for a boss that doesn't overwhelmingly interview and then hire white men

"HR probably wrote it in" unless it's an enterprise company: if the hiring manager can't fix the job posting requirements then that's a bad sign, as well

So like our Talent Aquisition group adds this stuff even if we point blank tell them not to. They have added educational milestones we asked not to have added. It depends on the company for sure.
