    My absolute least favorite trope in tv shows is the 'forgot your birthday, ignoring/excluding friend' surprise party. Just always terrible and doesn't teach anything.

    I was always under the impression that "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me" was an obvious lie. Like, every time it was invoked in media it was later shown that duh-doi... WORDS MATTER. But it seems there are folks out there who don't grasp this?

    if $600 checks made personal income jump by 10% that means EVERYONE'S FUCKING BROKE! this is a monstrous red flag that a vast swath of americans are quietly destitute

    New York Times headline reads " after stimulus checks, personal income sees biggest jump since April. personal income was up a remarkable 10% in January but the increase was mostly attributable to the $600 relief checks and unemployment benefits. "

    The worst thing is that these people aren't dumb. They know about inflation. Thune knows $6 in the 1970s is over $27 today adjusted for inflation. They fucking know this. They just don't think people who make their food and clean their bathrooms deserve the same things they got.

    I started working by bussing tables at the Star Family Restaurant for $1/hour & slowly moved up to cook – the big leagues for a kid like me– to earn $6/hour. Businesses in small towns survive on narrow margins. Mandating a $15 minimum wage would put many of them out of business.
