Facebook's "quality news" algorithm changes recently kicked in. So far, looks like CNN, NBC, and the NYT are doing worse, and Fox News and the Daily Wire (Ben Shapiro's site) are doing better.pic.twitter.com/xYLLlpzJGj

It's simple. This shows that olds are using facebook for news. Olds trend toward conservatism. Plus FB is now in the laggard adoption phase. So any young, or technology focused folks have moved on.

I wonder how engagements are distributed within a single website. Does engagement vary because of Facebook's algorithm? Or is it the result of a select few articles being much more popular than others?

Yes and yes. If an article is popular on an asset it will appear on my users for that asset, but that doesn't mean itll get more shares. Example: if your page reaches 10k on a post, and 500 people comment, it may then reach 30k more people, but if they don't share it (1/2)

it will only be seen by people on their page. what content creators want is for you to share it to your personal timeline and get engagement there too, so they get actual clicks. So comments/likes are good, but comments/likes/shares better. its not about SITE, its about FB ASSET

Data algorithms like this used for media selection are literally dumb. They are not able to judge quality over quantity. Just because a web site or video shows up at the top in a Google search doesn’t mean it’s the best at what it does. Often times, it’s perpetuating dreck.

2.2 billion people have Facebook accounts (of the 7.6 billion people in the world). So, almost 1/3 of the world is still on Facebook. Only 800 million people are on Instagram. And following a distant 3rd is Twitter with 328 million users.
