Tip: highlight images missing alt text with img:not([alt])

Using img:not([alt]) to highlight images missing alt text. You can also use Lighthouse or editor plugins to detect the same.

Based on very little, I used to think Vue was the closest to my preferred development style and that - of the frameworks - it's the one I'd like to work in. After using it for the better part of a year, I must sadly report that Vue is still a framework and like all frameworks...

I didn't explain myself well. Before today, there was no ability to add alt text to a gif in a tweet. That's why you'd always see people say [gif alt: xyz]. Now when you add a gif to a tweet, you have the ability to add alt text.

Unpopular opinion: React is the wrong tool for building content websites (blogs, marketing sites, documentation, etc.) today. SSR is not good enough. You end up downloading the content twice: once in the HTML, and again in the JS for hydration. How did this become so common? 😱

Half the tech opinions on Twitter are just opinions people have adopted/absorbed from others, without actually experiencing the tech. Tech A is like this and that. Have you used/studied tech A? No, but I’m convinced it’s this and that.

As a consultant, I'm seeing an epidemic: Companies are wasting millions by giving developers slow laptops. Today I said "npm install x". My laptop: 10 seconds. 😀 Their laptop: 3+ minutes. 🤯🤦‍♂️ Why? Weak processors, little RAM, platter drives, and slow security scanners.

Proud to announce that a project I've been working on since Christmas is now open-source: Hex Engine, a modern 2D game engine for the browser, designed to feel like . Please try it out and contribute! Let's make something great together 😊

I’m motivated at work if * I know my ideas & opinions are heard * I feel appreciated as a teammate * tasks are challenging but realistic * my work has value for others * there’s a clear goal in sight * I can learn something * people respect my time, deadline & keep their promises

just to be clear… i think the best thing about web dev today is how many more people want and are able to try it. and i think they deserve better.

and i am NOT advocating a return to the days where you had to configure your cgi-bin & write your own debug scripts because firebug hadn't been invented yet. don't confuse my complaints about complexity for ludditism

You aren't a Go, or Rust, or Java, or Python, or JavaScript developer (unless you are writing those languages). In reality you are a developer who uses language X to solve Y problems. You can learn new languages and paradigms. Don't get stuck in the I am an X developer.

As requested, I just put up a blog post explaining how React context updates really behave, and how React-Redux actually uses context internally:

One of the many reasons I hate talking to anyone ever is that most people are completely unable to answer simple questions. Instead, they make everything about their feelings, which I now have to manage because I needed mundane work related information. For example:

Video calls for when synchronous comms is more efficient, like troubleshooting an issue, or swapping ideas. Asynchronous comms for pretty much everything else. And “everyone” operates as if remote, even the office employees.
