The more people talk about my pinned thread of threads as a "mini-course" on modern American political history, the more it bugs me that it's not arranged in chronological order.
So, here it is, with threads sorted together by era.
One theory I have is that conservatives should use their public platform persuading people disposed to listen to them that approved vaccines are safe and effective.
If you don’t think R.F.K. Jr. should be publicly debated, says @DouthatNYT, “you need some other theory of how the curious can be persuaded away from his ideas.” https://nyti.ms/3XmFRGA
“If there is anything clear in the First Amendment, it is that the right of the people to pray in their own way is not to be controlled by the election returns.”
Hugo Black had tweets.
Today's the anniversary of the Supreme Court's ruling against state-mandated prayers in public schools.

You’re absolutely right! The goal of the left is to dismantle the nuclear family and make straight people the enemy. The final result will be the end of civilization. But at least Planet Earth will be saved.
“Black asserted that the First Amendment embodied the founders’ belief that faith was ‘too personal, too sacred, too holy to permit its ‘unhallowed perversion’ by a civil magistrate.’”

“Building the Republican campaign around the newly indicted front-runner is a colossal political miscalculation…No assemblage of politicians except the Republicans would ever conceive of running for the American presidency by running against the Constitution & the rule of law.”
I explain in this @nytopinion essay this morning where I believe the GOP precariously finds itself as a consequence of its abiding (and unquestioning) support of the former president as the party heads into the 2024 presidential election campaign. The party disagrees.
I see Trump has trotted out the weird lies about the Presidential Records Act that were circulating this weekend, so I'll repost this brief explainer: https://bit.ly/43ZDv2O
We, the paranoid and bad-faith actors of the organized right, have done everything we can to whip as many Americans as possible into a variety of panics, and now it’s on you, libs, to figure out how to talk them down.

1/It's Dobbs Day, the anniversary of SCOTUS's decision to end women's right to make their own health care choices. Alabama's Gov was joined by many of the state's GOP electeds in celebrating-"Alabama will always fight to protect our babies," she said
The very definition of a student-athlete. Honors student in economics. Wrote a terrific senior thesis on the value of diversity in NBA front offices. And what a basketball player who will only get better. Suddenly, I'm a Detroit Piston fan!
Nikki Haley is right, we need to go back to the America of my youth (average temperatures 2 degrees cooler, abortion legal everywhere, Voting Rights Act enforced, union membership higher, good Simpsons episodes).
“I want to also express my profound gratitude to God, for the celebration of the anniversary of what historians will call the greatest day for defending life in our history—the overturning of Roe vs. Wade.”

To be clear, what is being suggested here is that the Nazis got their ideas from a gay Jewish doctor (whose clinic they burned down & who they drove into exile). Worth thinking about what it means to blame Nazism on a Jew.
Magnus Hirschfeld. Another German sexologist. He opened one of the world's first transgender clinics. He was an avid proponent of eugenics and believed in forcibly sterilizing those who were "feeble-minded." The Nazis would later implement eugenics on a massive scale.
The right-wing press's obsession with Hunter Biden -- who's, again, not a member of the Biden administration -- really just shows how little in the way of scandal the White House has given them to chew on.
This is what the bottom of the bucket looks like.
