In other news, letsencrypt still does not understand the value of backwards compatibility. It's a great idea but could you guys *please* stop being a continuously moving target because I have better things to do with my time than playing sysadmin.

🚨I wrote a new piece about the 9 errors of intuition that people keep making during the pandemic, trapping us in a spiral of bad decisions & policies. This is a guide to thinking about the crisis & breaking free from that endless loop. 1/

Like I guess I cognitively understand that not everyone has prior experience of their life irrevocably shifting with no possibility of return, and that that's a thing that can just, like, easily happen to you one day, but.

Hi - I really enjoyed the Fleetwood Mac episode, and somehow it reminded me of this cut of Wish You Were Here with the rediscovered Stephane Grappelli violin solo, which I thought you'd enjoy

Useful illustration of how a rise in SARS-CoV-2 positivity in younger groups can soon become a rise in older groups.

While capital can respond to government decisions every second, withdrawing its approval with catastrophic consequences if it doesn't like them, citizens are stuck with a voting system that allows us to make just one, incredibly crude decision every 5 years.

Flight patterns of swifts. They were gorgeously captured by Edu Aguilera through the use of stacked frames. (Though you won’t catch me making a joke about the sky being full of zips and barbed wire like some kind of overly elaborate fetish costume. Oh no.)

No. It's about recognising that 'London' ISN'T the Commercial Property market. We are a living, thriving, multicultural cities of millions who love living here so much we do it DESPITE the shit rents and smog. London's office bubble is BOTH of our enemies. We are your allies.

A handful of Black women — writers, scholars, artists, thinkers — were at ground zero for the rise of those disinformation and radicalization networks before anyone else took the issue seriously. 2013, 2014, 2015… long before mainstream reporters knew a chan from a flan.

You want to save the small businesses that rely on that trade? You want to reboot the urban economy? Embrace it. Convert those spaces back to viable ones for small business and to social housing where possible. Tackle pollution. Get people LIVING in the centre again.

-style identity verification is a much better approach. there's value in being sure someone is who they say they are, but that can be done by people controlling their own spaces on the web, and using those to say "yes, those other accounts are me."

Why is a Native American lacrosse team tweeting as Gaeilge? Ireland has pulled out of the International World Games to give their space to the Iroquois Nationals, who represent the people who invented the game, and to whom it is sacred

I’ve commented before that Star Trek’s most prescient prediction was communication via memes in ‘Darmok’. So it was only a matter of time before someone started making these:

This Atlantic article has a really interesting analysis of the episode Key is that they only *seem* to be "speaking in metaphor", but what's actually going on is stranger and more fundamental — a kind of "logic" akin to how video games simulate things.

Zachary Sussman is a pathologist who oversaw covid tests at 4 standalone ERs for Physicians Premier, but he resigned in horror after he got a $8 covid test at one of the company's locations and then they billed his insurer $10,984.16 for it. 1/
