Here's some news, is not being criminally charged with anything "for now":

  2. Q from a convo earlier today: DHS's cyber arm, CISA, has a standing offer to inspect programs like Iowa Dems' vote reporting app. IDP chose not to. CISA is nonpartisan, but when other DHS arms like CBP & ICE are so political, does it discourage others from pursuing CISA's help?

  3. Sorry to be slightly cryptic, but man I love filing local and state FOIAs. I filed a very straightforward NSA one recently I fear will take years. Meanwhile three local ones I filed Monday all came back this afternoon.

  4. Finally, Wyden's lone assessment hits Gang of 8 Republicans' reticence, says it hampered Obama admin's ability to respond, which in turn affected public realization of what was happening.

  5. That was the nonpartisan stuff. Now for the partisan assessments. Risch, Rubio, Cotton, Cornyn, and Sasse are pretty brutal on the Obama admin for being taken by surprise and not being tougher on Putin.

  6. Why are we only learning some of this in 2020 through Senate committee reports? One possible explanation: Kerry suggested an independent commission on Russia's 2016 interference but was shot down.

  7. A consistent theme here is that because hacking for espionage is so common and within international norms, the administration was just blindsided when Russia pivoted from that access to active measures. To what degree have we reevaluated those norms since?

  8. Information sharing and awareness of Russia's intent was so bad that Obama's own cybersecurity coordinator wasn't aware of the DNC hack before wrote about it.

  10. Senate intel report on Obama admin's response to Russian interference in 2016. Reading now, but it isn't going to be all flattering, given Burr and Warner statements:

SCOOP: Trump supporters flooded a hotline used by Iowa precinct chairs to report Democratic caucus results after the telephone number was posted online, worsening delays in the statewide tally, a top state Democrat told party leaders Wednesday. w/

  12. There's plenty of things that can screw with election integrity. Going back to paper ballots to count and recheck after your tech fails you isn't one of them. You're supposed to do that so you don't certify bad results.

  13. Funny response, considering election infrastructure is DHS's bag, and they're fairly transparent about what they see. Wray's FBI takes lead on disinfo and shares practically nothing about what it finds with the public.

How Iowa should have handled their app: It's time to move to "open design." Great, constructive story by 's security director and technologist (and open-source app developer)

Took a look at the various disinfo campaigns swirling around Iowa yesterday w/ . Takeaway: We don't need foreign interference to show us our 2020 vulnerabilities. Americans were perfectly capable of spreading disinformation on our own.

  18. After tonight we're all going to forget about Iowa and the SOTU and just focus on National Signing Day, right?
