Working on a story for @Marketplace today abt consumer prices. Think about the stuff you buy regularly. You know, milk, cereal, shampoo, toothpaste. Is it getting more expensive? What are you willing to pay? I'm at msegarra@marketplace.org. Need to talk by 2 p.m. ET.

“What are you willing to pay?” is not a question that I’m willing to answer. Massive corporations have enough leverage over us as it is ... the last thing I need to give them is the exact location of the line in the sand, lest they mysteriously work their prices to toe the edge.

Hi! Another way of asking that question is...have you reached your breaking point on any of these products lately? The other day I bought lunch in midtown. $17 for a soup and sandwich. That's my breaking point. If you're up for an interview, let me know! msegarra@marketplace.org

A few years ago a cashier rang up $12 my 6-pack of micro brew I did a double take and switched to $8 Miller Lite for a few months. I soon realized life's too short and I don't drink all that much so why not. Getting old means things are starting to seem like they cost too much

I'd need to be paid to drink Miller Lite for a few months. :-)

Don't discount the value of nostalgia. The smell of cheap beer takes me back to my youth.

I ate SPAM in my youth but I have no desire to ever relive that experience.

Easy buddy ... Spam holds a very special place in my heart, and I mean that literally not figuratively. I had a Spam breakfast about 10 years ago and I’m pretty sure there still some delicious Spam plaque in my ventricles.

I tried it a year ago while camping on the rugged coast of the Scottish Highlands. SPAM kabobs over a campfire. By the 3rd bite I had had enough. Fortunately there was plenty of sheep shit around to help get the taste of the SPAM out of my mouth.
