      For example, I worked at a company for ~7 years, at one point one of the "hottest startups". Even as the 1st employee, equity was worthless.

      Technically I think I still have shares? But the entity went through mergers, down rounds, etc. Bottom line: your salary is what you get.

      Things can change! And I have a many friends who've turned startup equity into meaningful wealth. But it's a gamble, know that.

      @anildash Bottom line to me with startups, from experience: founders will sell you out in a red hot second. Get paid in cash, not hope.
