What in the? I'm not sure who this individual is but people who use 'woke' in this context are usually well versed in alt-right rhetoric.

WHAT?!?!? I accidentally let my ASECS membership lapse and don't have wherewithal to set up online account - does someone have a PDF of the program to email me? Is this the conference program?

This offends me on two levels: first for the reasons given by Kerry Sinanan. And second, for its laziness. "Tracing two veins of thought" indicates that this will be a useless & lazy recitation of quotes about free speech. It's unworthy of a student let alone the ASECS president.
-
Yes: it aims to suggest insight but this is an incoherent mess in terms of actual intellectual history.

This is just so damaging.

It is very revealing too. I had already withdrawn my paper from ASECS this year as I felt it was not making a safe space for many of us. And this confirms my fears. I am certainly taking my work elsewhere.
