Instead I took Metrobus (which kindly stopped about ten metres away from the iced-in bus stop, which was as close as any of us could get to it). On the way, one person boarded with their face gashed and streaming blood from a fall on the way to the bus-stop. Health hazard indeed!

For the record I DO think its reasonable to clear sidewalks with the same priority as we do roads. Walking is healthier for our well-being, our community, and our planet! Try it!

what is with the opposition to this? Why is clear sidewalks triggering people? For the average storm, it is reasonable to expect clear sidewalks on main arteries within 24 hours. As for the budget issue, the ability to walk should be a priority.
-
Cause it isn't Kyle, Karl, Keith, or Kevin who is talking about it. That is the only reason, ever.

Invest in a pair of ice cleats. City just can't wave a Magic Wand and all the snow will be gone. Public Health Crisis!! No China has a public health crisis. Give your head a shake!!

Tell that to the family of the MUN prof who was struck and killed a few weeks ago

I agree, I’m nervous for my friend who already has a dislocated shoulder and has to venture out for work. That said, cars couldn’t even get around decently last night, it takes time to get everything cleared. Unlike some larger cities, St. John’s heavily revolves around driving

Until people decide to use alternative means of transportation, a majority of people in the city drive and do not think of pedestrians at all. It’s part of St. John’s... I doubt we’ll ever be as walkable as Washington DC, or NYC. Both of which I felt safer in the winter than here

I gave up walking to MUN this morning as I could barely get down Lemarchant; there was not a drop of salt and the street was sheer ice. What's wrong with the City not salting?! All main roads need a thorough sprinkling *every* morning in weather like this.
