Great essay, I’ve read it twice today! Can you recommend a good study that covers this intersection between homesteading & Indian Removal? White’s latest synthesis of Reconstruction covers it but I’d be interested in reading other titles.

Thanks so much! AFAIK, there isn't a comprehensive source on it. Historians have largely ignored it - a lot of the recent work is by sociologists.
