Today I got a letter from a prisoner who got COVID and described his whole ordeal. As soon as he spiked a fever, he said, he was put in solitary w/nothing but the clothes on his back for 5 days. Not even a cup; he drank of a disposable cereal bowl.

It wasn't until the sixth day that he finally found out he had COVID.
"That was shocking, scary. How could I have coronavirus, I haven't been anywhere - I've been in prison for 33 years. How could this happen?"

He describes the lack of social distancing and writes, "I guess they intend to practice herd inoculation, expose as many of us to this deadly virus irregardless of our human rights."

"With all due respect, what do you think is going on?" he wrote. "Is it that our lives, inmates don't matter? Aren't we still human with innocent family and friends who love us and want the best for us under the law?"

The signs were around us long before the pandemic. Can we assume they will not be ignored when the worst is over?

The same thing happened to my penpal. He wasn't given a blanket until his 3rd day in solitary. Thankfully his test was negative. It's all so horrifyingly barbaric. What's the point of not getting a cup and a blanket?

Yeah prison sucks - that’s why I quit breaking the law.

Horrific. Thanks for sharing. I try to come to grips with the macro issue here:
