Google's WaveNet AI fools human receptionists. This was the most mind-blowing/most scary moment from the Google I/O keynote. There's so many ethical implications. Should AI bots self-disclose? How will Google police terms of service violations? What's the worst that can happen?https://twitter.com/richdemuro/status/993909414179422209 …

No joke. Google Assistant will start making phone calls to small businesses to make appointments on you behalf. It's called Google Duplex. The AI caller even adds uhmms and hmms #io18 pic.twitter.com/r5Ie33YFEc

I want AI bots to disclose they're AI. I want them to ask for consent before I interact with them. "Hi! I'm a Virtual Assistant speaking on behalf of @sundarpichai. Would you be willing to help schedule an appointment?" I don't want AI bot hijacking my attention without consent.

Most people don't actually talk on their phones much but these AI bots are going to be embodied in social VR worlds & in layers of augmented reality. I don't want every VR/AR social interaction to have me questioning "Is this person human?" Imagine how spammers will use this tech

Businesses will have their own bots. It will be really difficult to speak to a human. What could go wrong?

Yes. I want ai bots to be forced to disclose. And websites to post if they are using the Facebook pixel, etc. Transparency is far more useful than trickery. It builds trust, too.

Take this net and combine it with the voice impersonation net that Adobe demo'd last year and you can have a famous person bot call you. The evoluiton of the Lonely Hearts Scheme and various other scams.

I was on Discord with @Azadux discussing this, I could not make out who was the real person at first, thinking they mislabeled the people. Is the Turing test dead yet? I'm still not sure what we watched...

Eventually we'll have bots speaking to bots, using the human transition layer of audible speech, what a weird, scary and awesome concept eh. The world of AI will revolutionize and ruin us all. 🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖

AI disclosure is essential! Thanks for being a strong voice of reason. Ethics, diversity, and politeness should be built into our technology or else it will control us in ways we cannot see.

Makes me think of dystopia where there are fully virtual people. They have a physical presence online (posting photos of 'themselves', news, etc). They can engange in conversations. They have a contact number and can talk. They just don't exist, but that might be hard to prove...

Lots of questions to be answered. Like all technologies it changes society because something new is possible. Think about how the smartphone changed us for better and for worse. I’m rather surprised they didn’t roll this out for businesses to answer simple questions first.
