Doing this right now - most interested in tango vs. AR kit with same content. Even if AR kit is the same, implications would be huge.

That really makes me wonder if ARkit can evolve to 3Dscankit. Single-cam realtime 3D capture is the dream!

FB has anything phone based for AR? Tango I have used, but that is specific hw that doesn't work on normal phones. Apple no idea.

Well, okay, that's not something I would call an "AR SDK", even though it is AR, strictly speaking.

It goes way beyond that video and is actually very close to what Apple showed, i.e. watch this https://youtu.be/OFkEHEWPZSU?t=671 …

It's in closed beta, they were keeping it close to the vest so far. That might change now that Apple's got a direct competitor out though.

I have not. The comparison should be Google Tango vs Apple ARKit vs Windows Holographic

Tango vs Hololens, more likely. The Win Holographic API is not only AR (stupid MS marketing). Did some dev for both, they are about the same

Both can be a PITA to develop for, the hw has issues - battery pwr, limited resources, works only on very few specific devices.

But if you want marker-less 6dof tracking for positioning (not object overlays), Tango & Hololens are the state of the art, ATM.

      6. Jan Ciger‏ @janoc200 7 Jun 2017

Neither of them is very usable for overlaying objects (highlight parts, for ex). That is pushing the limits, you want a marker there.

Had a quick look at ARKit, it is not using full SLAM but visual odometry. Much cheaper computationally, but some things are not doable.

Things like persistent scenes based on 3D feature recognition or 3D scanning that both Hololens & Tango can do ARKit likely can't do.

It depends on the project, people usually like to use a-frame binding. This make AR.js very simple to learn -https://medium.com/arjs/augmented-reality-in-10-lines-of-html-4e193ea9fdbf …
