Coming from the Mac world, it's a bit of a rude awakening to have to build your own PC to drive
#VR experiences at recommended 1080p 75fps -
Is there a company building the best possible / reasonable PCs for
#VR without charging an extra $1000-$1500 than if you were to self-build? -
@kentbye I honestly think the up charge is reasonable--it's taking me a long time to finish mine although I am being overly ambitious. -
.
@jstarrdewar Is this the build that you ended up going with? http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/2aoylb/build_help_sff_game_dev_workstation/ … It sounded like you wanted a more mobile rig for demos. -
@kentbye No I wound up with this: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/MNKbTW Glad I went with the Gryphon Z97 it's really nice. Computer runs great. -
@jstarrdewar Thanks! What's been so ambitious about it? And why a Intel Xeon E3-1231 v3 3.40 GHz instead of an Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz? -
@kentbye the reason temps are an issue is the ambitious part of the build -- I'm using a pelican case 1510 as the case. So top vents only. -
.
@jstarrdewar I see. So going with a small-form factor PC for mobility, then you have to tradeoff not getting the fastest Intel processor? - 5 more replies

Share your parts list of building a custom
#VR PC on this thread. I may do a group podcast discussion on the topic:https://twitter.com/kentbye/status/495610179296448513 … -
@kentbye Depends a lot on your budget, I think, and what counts as acceptable performance. http://logicalincrements.com was really helpful
