what really bothers me about the disingenuous pete "but the rich will benefit" spin is that a vast majority of people—pundits & reporters included—aren't pointing out that while they *could* benefit, they won't bc they'll still just "donate" to get their kids into yale & harvard

the offer is on the table but they're going to pass because people with that kind of wealth are still going to opt for elite institutions

(As their taxes go up to fund public colleges). Clowns like Pete and Amy are DOUBLE disingenuous in this case.

Yeah, I don't see enough people linking these two concepts. We can't tax billionaires more because that would be too harsh...but we also can't offer them free state school because that's too nice?

There’s always this “outlier” reason why we can’t do something great for our people. They used to use “the welfare queen” story as a reason programs needed to be cut. The truth is we’re going to do this really great thing and they are on the wrong side of history.

Pete is supposed to be the "smart guy" in the race, right?

I've never been able to discern what about him makes him "smart"

Someone “getting away” with something they didn’t earn/ need is THE core concern of GOPers. That’s why they think this is a good argument, even when it’s totally ludicrous. “Can’t have free stuff because x will benefit unfairly.” The only diff is swapping the poors for the rich.
-
And ignoring that if the rich were taxed fairly they WOULD pay for education (roads, etc.).
