Looked into this when I was doing Mac WeChat 2.0 with @MapleShadow. <14pt Chinese is illegible, >13pt Latin characters look weird and out of place on Mac OS X. Built string formatting stuff to automatically switch them, but I think it later got cut.
I guess it’s because of the performance issue. You don’t wanna detect each character every time before it gets rendered. (I’m not in mac WeChat team anymore though.
There’s probably a more performance optimized way to do it than we were, but maybe not worth the effort.
So, would need a specialized foundry to tackle the problem, you think?
