    New from me Will the Pope see a backlash from his new position on civil unions? Not likely. 75% of Catholics support same-sex marriage. 80% of Catholic Democrats hold a positive view of gays and lesbians. It's 65% of Republicans.

    The pope said he supports civil unions for same-sex couples. American Catholics will approve.
