💥 The judge has now OVERRULED Apple’s attempt to dismiss my lawsuit over App Store scams & anti-competitive practices – so the case will move forward to discovery.
1/ Here’s what happened:
Wow. Pretty big low-level change in iOS 16.1 beta 2:
free() now zeros the freed memory.
I love this, frankly, but I bet it’s going to uncover a good deal of bugs and crashes that worked until now because of luck.
from some of our members about how they operate and how we should avoid the assumption that tech-driven companies operate substantially the same way and belong to the same industry. Read why there is still not a "tech industry". https://bit.ly/3BMJIUk

Former App Association staff describe Apple's large influence despite not being a member; the developer group confirms Apple provides 50%+ of its $9M funding (
SCOOP -- The App Association brands itself as a grassroots group representing small app developers. But in reality, Apple dictates the group's positions and provides the vast majority of its funding, pouring in millions per year, former employees told me.
, the fake “app developer interest group” that Apple funds to lobby politicians while its monopoly strangles developers. Shame on Apple and shame on this deceitful astroturfing.
Apple Dev Account, threatening to close his account if he won't resolve "unspecified metric"
I can't believe it's legal for (in this case a monopoly) to suspend accounts without providing a justification.
I respect Ken enough that at first I thought this was parody.
While not always desirable, modeling real physics in software user interfaces makes a *lot* of sense… by definition!
This blanket statement is suddenly making me feel less excited about
With respect, modeling real physics in software user interfaces doesn’t make sense. It’s a flawed concept. Since pixels have no actual mass, the equations don’t work. Assigning mass is fakery, so using any part of a physics model in a user interface is a choice.
No way to dismiss this screen, that’s totally a required step and I could not see why a user would choose not to allow that! To be a product owner at Meta ❤️
What a great idea. There’s nothing like living through the walled garden platform experiences first-hand, if you want to really grasp what developers, makers put up with
We're making a game @noclipvideo so we can make a series about the opaque, business-side of the industry.

It is crazy when you spend all the summer in front of the computer to design and build your app, and then the App Store Review team rejects it because they can't find any sense in your app.
Tim Cook is asked about RCS and lack of compatibility with iMessage: “I don’t see our users asking us to put a lot of energy into that at this point.” There you go.
NEW: In a court hearing, Facebook engineers admit that the company's systems are so open and complex that they don't know where user data is stored.
“It would take multiple teams on the ad side to track down exactly the—where the [user] data flows.”
The Internet's recency bias is bad for humanity. Our social media feeds prioritize recency over quality, which robs us of wisdom and makes us obsessed with the news.
How to improve the Internet:
“At this time, Kaleidoscope 3.6 has been in review for a full month without communication or progress, after an initial quick rejection. Not only is there frustration with the current update, our trepidation grows with regard to the updates we have been planning down the road.”
Thoughts on trying to provide the best user experience for everybody vs. the reality of the Mac App Store.

I'm now waiting for a review in the iOS App Store. No big deal for me since my app barely even counts as a personal hobby these days. I feel sorry for everyone who has this process in their critical path for their serious work or business.
My Aviary app updates are getting rejected by app review due to the app name/subtitle containing trademarked terms (Twitter), which was unfair in its own right as many apps do this. I removed it, but it’s still getting rejected (I have it in my app description). What do I do now?
Last year I went from #1 to #3 for all my main keywords, and despite reporting it to Apple many many times, nothing happened. Eventually after 2 month they lost their ranking, I believe based on that their retention numbers were much worse than mine.
I no longer make Mac or iOS apps for distribution, but I sometimes write apps for internal demos and prototypes. Why I should ever have spend a single moment on code signing or provisioning profiles is an utter and complete mystery to me.
New @apple scoop: iPhones are now—for 1st time—the most widely used phone in the US.
iPhone “active installed base” retook the top spot Android stole in 2010; Apple is now 50%+ for 1st time since the 2007 launch of iPhone.

Because Apple doesn't have to play by the same rules as everyone else...
And people wonder why they're in so much hot water over their anticompetitive behavior.
