I’ve seen comments like “he took the higher ground.” There is no “higher ground” when it comes to how we deal with racism. Applauding the respectability politics of a black man “saving” this short throat racist plays into “white innocence.” They allegedly “don’t know better.”

There is a long standing history of black people forgiving their oppressors and white people patting them on the head for it. Black people are so indoctrinated to place white comfort first that we go out of our way to show how “good” we are even when it’s to our own detriment.
