I agreed to be the media person on this, in part to create a buffer between any dumpster fires that might erupt and our trans, gender non-conforming and intersex authors. That’s the only reason you’re seeing my name and face so much attached to this.

The only thing that can be determined at birth is a baby's biological sex - male, female or intersex. The rest is ideology. Not being 'anti-trans' by the way.

If you were not being 'anti-trans' you'd acknowledge that the rest is not ideology, but ALSO biology. Neurobiology, psychology, etc. As is well-established in the scientific literature.

So if neurobiology can be used to determine if a person is trans, do trans people have tests done before they transition? Or is it psychology that's used to determine if someone is trans?

Because even if you set humans apart from other mammals we have the body of either a male or female. If a male says he is a female, according to your rules he has unfettered access to women & their spaces as well as children. Did you miss #Metoo Choose reality Karen.

The suggestion that trans women represent a threat to cis women and girls is ridiculous. Trans women are the ones more likely to suffer from violence including sexual violence.

Don't normally comment on these things, but why not. The only thing that genetic sex should apply to is medical, as due to your chromosomal makeup, you're more predisposed to certain illnesses and psychological problems based upon that. Other than that? Be who you are.

But it doesn't. The words sex and gender are used as synonyms and then to mean different things. The letter avoids saying that sex is in fact binary. Trump is horrible, his motivations are terrible, but that does not justify sacrificing facts to oppose him.

The letter avoids saying that because it is false, because the relationship between sex chromosomes, genitalia, and gender identity is imperfect, and because intersex people exist.

It is not false. The fact that it is imperfect does not make it false, nor does the fact the development is complex and hence prone to rare mishaps make it false. Intersex people do not make it false.

I think maybe we’re operating on different definitions of “binary” then, if the existence of intersex people doesn’t make it false.

Intersex is not a third sex. Intersex is a condition relating to disruption to either meiosis or a developmental process. If you are saying sex in mammals is not binary then you are turning things around to suit an ideology.

This is interesting. I studied developmental genetics in my PhD and so did my partner. His postdoc research was highly relevant: sex determination, sex reversal, and sexual development in mammals. He signed the letter.

Intersex people are persistently asking for our traumatic histories not to be conflated with transgender ideology, it is harmful to us and results in us being othered & used as circus curiosities to validate an ever increasing range of trans identities

It’s persistent & nothing can be written about trans issues without using intersex people & the conflation with gender identity, especially non-binary identities, trivialises the traumatic histories many of us have experienced - we are the collateral damage in this debate 😰

It conflates the issues, confuses sex & gender & promotes transgender ideology, which has resulted in intersex people being weaponised to validate an ever increasing range of identities. I do not exist as a way to prove that any fully male bodied person can claim to be a woman
