“The founders never intended DC to be a state.” Ok, but they never intended women to vote either, and we figured that one out.

Or for black people to be worth 5/5 of a person and vote.

The founders probably never intended to cede half of it to Virginia either. The half that remains should receive statehood.

If the people in the residential parts of Washington DC want to be in a state, all it would require for them to do that is to rejoin Maryland, who donated a part of their own territory to create Washington DC in the first place. That way they'd have representation in Congress.

The founders literally believed it was okay for black people to be property and exploit them for economic gain so perhaps we shouldn't use their intentions to determine how we move forward.

Or for Black citizens to be more than 3/5 of a person. Guess what, the world changes in almost 250 years.

The founders never intended a Black man to be counted as a full person, but we fixed that.

The founders were seriously worried that government might make us house soldiers in the in-law unit, but they got that one way wrong too.
